A Charming Hotel in Montague”

Excellent Customer Service, great hotel facilities and good location

Montague on the Gardens is very charming for its hotel facilities and for its customer service, you will feel the experience right in your very first step at the hotel's doorstep. My pre booking requests in February were all granted by the hotel. We were asked twice if the assigned room is okay with us - by the bell boy and by Reception. Isn't this great customer service? The rooms are exceptionally better than the other 4 star hotels in our Trafalgar tour in Italy, Paris and Switzerland. We stayed for 6 days after our 13-day Trafalgar European tour. The hotel is very accessible via the Russell Square Tube Station. Of course, it's very near the British Museum. We enjoyed the 5-minute walk from the hotel to the tube via the lush Russell Square Park. Cafe Russell is inside the square, so you can take your coffee and toast very early while watching the locals play with their dogs in the square. Beside the tube are Pret a Manger (a very good organic fastfood), Cafe Nero and Texco supermart. Whether by taxi or tube, the hotel is easily reached whether you come from a theater show, dine in Covent Garden or Piccadily Circus or Southbank. On my 3rd day, I got room service for breakfast as we have a 7:30 call time for Stonehenge tour. It came exactly at 6:30 am giving me enough time to prepare. Also, my request for delayed check-out was accommodated. These are Wow! great Customer service! Sleeping quality is excellent. Room is very quiet. You can request a room facing the garden and farther from the elevator. Coffee and tea facilities are excellent. Bathroom facilities are clean and toiletries are A1 quality.

Quiet Elegance in the Center of London ”

The Montague is a well located, small elegant hotel, in a quiet area next to the British Museum. It is a short walk to Covent Gardens from there. It is also close to several tube stations and has good proximity to St Pancras. For work I stay at a lot of nice, but generic chain hotels. The Montague definitely has a unique feel to it. The common areas are furnished like your rich aunt's living room, with chandeliers and comfy chairs. This is a more expensive hotel than what I am accustomed to when on vacation. No backpackers staying here. We were slightly out of place in blue jeans. We stayed here mostly because we got a good price. Our room was small, like on a cruise ship. We enjoyed the view from our room of the park. I never really figured out how the shower was supposed to work. The staff is great. They were really trying to help you. We ate one meal at the restaurant. Our late night glass of wine and bowl of chili was our most expensive meal in London.

"One of London's hidden gems"”

truly personal service

Having stayed in many of London's hotels, I can say, without a doubt, The Montague On the Gardens Hotel is an absolute gem. All the public rooms, that include a sunroom and garden eating are, are beautifully appointed. The service, be it concierge, front desk, waiters and general staff, at all times is perfection, and the dinner was imaginative and delicious. I would, without question, return to this little haven.

Fantastic hotel that took great care of us!”

The Montague on The Gardens was a wonderfully quaint hotel which exceeded our expectations. The staff, upon learning it was our honeymoon, took great care of us, including a signed card and some very nice sweets. They also upgraded us to a suite! The room was wonderful and comfortable, especially the bed. With a wonderful location just across from the British Museum, this place just can't be beat. Recommend it highly!

Another wonderful stay”

The Staff, the Locatoin, The Staff!

I always stay at The Montague when in London, perfect location, lovely (if small) room and wonderful staff. Overseas visitors (particularly US) should bear in mind that Regency period London Hotels often mean small, sometimes very small rooms. But they do it with style at the Montague and still find room for everything you need for a stay in town right by the British Museum

Charming, Warm Welcome, Great Location. New London favorite”

Charming hotel with traditional English warmth and welcome. Great location at a 3 minute walk to the British Museum or Russell Square. Staff always greeted and asked if the could assist. Spacious king room (with a real king - not 2 twins) and a large comfortable sofa that could’ve made for a third person if we’d had someone else. The various plug adapters at the desk to plug in Europe or US appliances/computer was terrific. Tea and coffee service, robes, and a newspaper daily. Appreciated the bath after a long walk, and also a good rain shower for the morning. Dining was in a wonderful surrounding. We had breakfast daily in the conservatory overlooking the gardens. Our new favorite hotel for London.

Honeymoon trip to London”

1. They upgraded us to a bigger room for free. 2. Location of the hotel was fantastic. 3. Rooms were well decorated and clean

Overall it was very good. Given that it was our first time to London, the hotel was closely located to the tube station, and also very near to the British Museum. It was also walkable to shopping streets like Covent Garden. We had lunch at the hotel and the food was also top notch. Rooms were beautiful and we were given chocolates and cookies as a welcome gift. The only problem we had was that we requested for airport transfer which we thought was complimentary, and we didn't know we had to pay for it until checkout time. And also that we didn't know that we had to pay each time for using the hotel phone to make local calls. But other than that, everything was fantastic :)

Good choice in Bloomsbury”

We stayed here for three nights. Although our room was small, the bed was very comfortable and everything was very clean. We were busy with sight seeing during our stay, so we didn't spend too much time on the premises - other than to sleep. Our room faced Montague St., but it was very quite - we didn't hear much, if any, street noise. The hotel lobby is quite attractive and provides a good space for reading or conversing. The service from the desk staff, in terms of providing information and helping with bag transport, was excellent.

Welcoming and very comfortable”

Very helpful and pleasant staff

From the moment my taxi arrived at the hotel's front door and the doorman reached into take my suitacase, the service is really excellent throughout my stay. The staff seemed to be genuinely concerned to provide a first class service to their guests. Although centrally located, the hotel was very peaceful and I particularly enjoyed the rear veranda opening off the bar, which was comfortably furnished and heated and very pleasant even in January. My room was well equipped and comfortable if a little compact for an 'executive king' and even had a separate extra WC with basin, which would have been very welcome if my partner had been with me as originally planned. The dinner in the restaurant was excellent and the continental breakfast really very good. I will definitely return to The Montague if I need to stay in that part of London again.

If you can spend some money, choose the Montagne”

The staff is marvelous, rooms are very clean, have good space and are well equipped. You receive lots of free gifts, like cookies, hand written welcome letters, bottled water and so on. The hotel is literally next to the British Museum, what adds a lot of value since you can always spend some time there after a busy day or before your checkout. You spend little time going to major attractions like Buckingham Palace, Hyde Park, Westminster Palace, Westminster Abbey, London Eye and so on. Wifi and breakfast are also good. I did not went to the restaurant, so I can't review it. Anyway, great value for money.

An excellent hotel”

This beautiful, boutique hotel is wonderful on every account - comfortable, nicely appointed rooms with excellent beds, bedding and pillows; outlets for for European, British and American electrical plugs; multiple and appealing dining areas; good selection of hot and cold breakfast items; competent, polite and helpful staff; and conveniently located. Rooms at the back of the hotel are quiet. We recently had a four-night stay in Room 22 on the ground floor - it was quiet and comfortable (there's no view to speak of, but that was fine with us - after the sensory overload of London, the calm of the room was very, very welcome). Highly, highly recommend - and I look forward to staying there again.

A professional and friendly hotel

This is the first time that my families visit London. We come from Taiwan. At beginning I really worried that some different customs in the UK would make my families confuse. But luckily The Montague's touching-heart service helped them to get used to this city easily. We will definitely chose The Montague next time we visit London.

I first stayed in the Montague in 1995 when the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education Europe Board of Directors held its early meetings there. I've stayed several times since then. The facilities have greatly improved which also has brought increasing prices. Twenty years ago, the breakfast buffet was served downstairs and was included with the room. I don't recall the restaurant being as large.

Utterly Charming”

Service, location, food

Stayed here after researching on TA and was not disappointed. The service really is exemplary and every single staff member was extremely nice. This to me is a sign of excellent management: a rarity in the hospitality industry these days. The location is an easy stroll to Oxford Street, Covent Garden etc but is still very quiet. Our room had a garden view & was really nice. A good size for London, especially as the bathroom had a lovely large bath.

Wonderful Hotel!”

Very friendly staff

I left Andaz Liverpool and spent the last few days of my vacation here. What can I say, the staff was much more professional and friendly. Very helpful in solving problems. When I arrived, my room was not ready, and the lady asked me to wait a while in the restaurant and treated me coffee. It's a small gesture but very well received. The room was lovely - very UK style! The hotel is right next to British Museum and close to Covent Garden. I enjoyed walking in the neighborhood a lot.

Charming hotel, friendly and personable staff, clean room and great location”

Have stayed many times in this hotel, I was always welcomed and greeted warmly by their friendly, personable and always helpful staff. The check in process was always efficient. I was surprised that they remember my name on my second stay at the hotel. Rooms are always clean, comfortable bed, rooms design is quintessential British with a boutique feel and the location is great, within a short walk from tube stations. Will definitely stay again at the hotel in the near future and would recommend the hotel to anyone who wish to stay at a quality hotel with great service.

Better than last time”

Second stay at the Montague. Felt already almost like at home the first time. This time, simply felt like home. Everything was done to accommodate me and my two daughters that were comfortable during the stay.
