The Stroops

Everything about this property is beautiful. The road leading up to the property is very steep and narrow but then once you reach The Stroops the view is amazing. Ruth is lovely very welcoming and helpful and lives next door so is close to hand should you need her. The accommodation is exceptionally clean and prepared during Covid, the space is lovely and comfortable with everything you could possibly need for a stay. I especially loved the note in the bedroom to advise of deer possibly making a noise around the property at night or the sounds of an owl. I wake often during the night and stood at the window watching the sea and a family of deer in the garden. The place is just perfect and we would love to stay again on our next visit couldn’t recommend it enough.

Absolutely nothing

We had a lovely weeks stay in this cosy property which was a great base for exploring the north east cost of Scotland. The property is located just outside of Helmsdale and has great sea views. The owner was very welcoming and suggested a nice walk close to the property where we saw some deer. The property has a well equipped kitchen, a very comfy bed, a modern bathroom and was spotlessly clean.

Only small negative was the lack of clothes storage space in the bedroom, which was a bit of an issue for a weeks stay. There was a large wardrobe however most of this was locked (appreciate that this may have been due to Covid measures that are in place, something the owner clearly takes seriously which is very reassuring).

A wonderful place to stay. Magnificent views over Helmsdale harbour and the sea with beautiful walks on your doorstep. The Stroops is very comfortable, great bed, excellent size and has everything you need to make it a home from home. Ruth is a delight, witty, funny and down to earth, always helpful but never intrusive. It was a pleasure to stay here and have access to the wonderful natural countryside, we would certainly be happy to return in a heartbeat

The view front he apartment is absolutely stunning, with the added charm of Ruth; the host (with her two wonderful doggies 🥰), this apartment is a must stay. It was spotlessly clean and cosy and had everything you could need. Excellent facilities (including wifi) and very cosy bed and sofa bed.I wish I stayed longer and would recommend to all. Honestly, I couldn’t wish for more

An excellent location overlooking the sea and Helmsdale. A fully equipped kitchen with everything we needed and more, A very thoughtful host, 2 small bottles of whiskey had been left for us with 2 packets of biscuits, we thought it was a lovely touch. Had such a good nights sleep, the bed is so comfortable and the surroundings so quiet.

The Stroops was very well clean and well presented. Everything was there that we needed. Very peaceful with views of the ocean. Ruth, the host, was very friendly and welcoming. Only wish that we had time to stay an extra day or two. The property smelt lovely.

The Stroops is a fabulous find . The apartment was lovely ,clean, warm and everything you needed and a super welcome gift. The views were amazing and such a relaxing place. Ruth was a fantastic host right next door if you needed any help . Would recommend and only wish we’d had longer here

Beautiful location, wonderful host, clean, excellent facilities and the view was incredible! The host even left us a little card congratulating us on our anniversary and our upcoming baby, such a lovely personal touch.

I couldnt fault this place at all

The view, the lovely comfortable property and the owner who gave us some emergency food as we had artived later in the day on foot.

If you have been walking or cycling then the final destination is at the top of a hill Once you see the view - the effort is worth it.

We really enjoyed our 2 nights stay at The Stroops. Ruth was a fantastic host, the accommodation was super clean, well equipped and in a great location with super nice sea view. Highly recommended.

Everything was perfect!

Wonderful location on the outer edges of Helmsdale. Steep drive up but beautiful walks from the back door and I’ve never seen so many stars in my life. We were able to see the sunrise over the sea while eating breakfast. Charming notes about the stroops and history of the family and tastefully decorated. Sensible Covid measures, warm and considerate host. Would highly recommend

The location was superb with breathtaking views and an amazing walk starting immediately outside the house. Our host, Ruth, couldn’t have been more helpful.
