Newer ryokan with traditional feel”

Tokinoniwa provided great value and wonderful service. Every room has a private outdoor bathtub that was easy to use and made for a wonderfully relaxing evening. The bed was super comfortable and spacious (we had a king sized). The room was also comfortable with places to sit, watch TV, etc. The bathroom had a great shower. We were the only western foreigners (that we saw) during our stay. Between our broken, minimal Japanese and the staff being patient, we had a wonderful time. The kaiseki dinners were very impressive, taking usually 1-2 hours. Dinner is served at either 5:30 or 8:00pm in the dining room. Breakfast was served 7:00-9:00am with a choice between western or Japanese style meals. Seating in the dining room was either chairs at tables, or sitting on tatami floors with wells for feet under the table. There is also the option to select different pillows and multiple sizes of yukata on your way to your room. As a size 22-24 woman, I was not able to fit into the pyjamas or yukata but was able to be in my own clothes throughout my stay. Parking was also very easy. There is also a shuttle into the main area of Kusatsu (the yubatake area). This was our first time at a ryokan Onsen. I think that we would have been able to enjoy it even more if we knew more Japanese, and had a bit more experience with ryokans before we went. All in all, an unforgettable stay!

Prime getaway vacation ”

Location is a bit far away from city. But the resort itself is perfect. Breakfast and dinner included in price. Much variety of dish. Never repeated. Onsen is top tier. Two large public onsen, each with a handful of different pool. Never cease to amaze you. In room onsen also good if privacy is wanted. Just beware that resort charges per head, not per room. So when making the booking, be sure the number of guests is correct, otherwise would be overcharged.

Good service”

Tokinoniwa Hotel is amazing! They are clean and tidy. We are being treated in care from the first step inside this hotel. Staff will take care from luggage, check-in, until you are in the room. Hotel facilities are great! They have 23 types of onsen and you won’t feel bored during the whole stay. Shuttle buses from Karuizawa are convenient! And shuttle bus to and from the hotel and the bus terminal is frequent! Though food is so-so, but the staff will well prepared the table which has high privacy and you won’t feel being disturbed. For sure if I go to Kusatsu again, I will book this Hotel again!

Great service and the room was amazing with private onsen, great for people that have tattoos and they also have 3 private onsen that you can use plus 4 public onsen. Both breakfast and dinner were amazing and they have English menu so you know what you are eating. It’s a bit off from the downtown, but they do have free shuttle service. They have drinks machine and coin laundry service

Free shuttle bus from the Kusatsu bus terminal. Onsen at the public area and inside the room were both comfortable. Dinner was served on the 2/F in private rooms, 3 main course at dinner to choose from and the breakfast could be at either Japanese or Western style, the staffs at the restaurant were very polite and friendly. Free ramen and ice cream as snacks after onsen bath.

Private Onsen & Free shuttle”

This traditional onsen was renovated by a big hotel brand in Japan (Dormy Inn) and was a perfect place to relax in the middle of our trip before we returned to the busy Tokyo. Private onsen at the room was just what we wanted during this covid period. Both breakfast and dinner were well taken care of, delicious with high quality food. There were also different free snacks, ice-lolly, drinks throughout the day, and of course, the free ramen at 10pm! What's more, the free shuttle service to/from Karuizawa Station (booked in advance via email) and to/from Yubatake made our travelling stress-free. One price and everything included. Highly recommend!

Nice roykan but need improvement”

The roykan itself is very nice, nice environment and design, like the concept of 3 private roykan but needs improvement. The food is so so only, biggest problem is the way to private ryokan, its too dark to walk at night. As the private onsen is always full, we decided to check it out after 11pm, but the steps to the onsen is so dark I missed a step and fell, it is especially dangerous for senior citizen and at the onsen which have a flight of stairs leading tonit. It's its all rocky so despite it wasn't a hard fall, the skin on my elbow tear and bleed.

poor service”

This was the third time staying at this hotel. I was disappointed with my recent stay. First of all, I checked in and no one asked if I would need to reserve a seat for the free shuttle bus going to Karuizawa. Unlike the first two times, upon checking in the staff would tell me I can just take the free shuttle bus next morning after checking out. This time the staff just told me the bus was full and didn’t even offer any other option or suggestion about how to get to Karuizawa. Food didn’t taste as good as the first two times. Overall the quality of the stay and service have gone down a lot. For this premium price, I would expect bettter service than what I had received.

So special and luxurious”

We booked a room for our honeymoon with the private onsen in the room. Although the room itself is quite small, this hotel is very luxurious and is a ryokan style. Definitely get the dinner and breakfast included - the food was amazing and so plentiful. The staff are very friendly and there are also private onsens for all guests. The view from our room was very nice, overlooking the snow capped mountains.
