Me and my 12 years old daughter, traveled to Manchester on May 2022. The hotel is easy to access, the room is very clean, recently renovated, very modern and big. The stuff is super friendly. The breakfast is incredibly tasty! Lots of choices. Full English breakfast if you're really hungry! 🙂 Cons: No elevator! Luckily the room was at the first floor.

Lovely traditional British hotel ”
Amazing find in central Manchester. Traditional hotel in central Manchester. Our double room was newly renovated with all the mod cons, comfortable bed, controlled room heating and a really quiet night sleep. Nice continental breakfast. Freindly helpful team running the place.

We stayed at the Black Lion after a gig at the Arena. We occupied the only room that was en-suite. The room was basic. It was clean and had what we needed and we only used it to stay and get some sleep. Pros: value for money, close to our location and city centre, clean, staff are very friendly and food is very good!! Cons: There are other rooms so it is very noisy, plus there is a generator located right outside our room and it comes on and off during the night. Shared bathroom is right next door to our room so it you can hear everything. Mattress for the double bed definitely needs changing, it slopes in the middle so me and my friend found ourselves trying not to roll into each other at night. I personally didn’t get a good nights sleep and was woken up several times when people went to use the bathroom, however this is not the Black Lions fault. They can’t stop other guests from having a late night wee. All in all, it was what we needed.

Rooms with no windows- never again ”
The staff is absolutely brilliant and the location is spot on, although the hotel itself needs a good refurb. Beds really comfy, TV signal was cutting off, the heating in the bathroom and our room was on, even though it was absolutely boiling outside. First night felt like we were in sauna, so we had to check out earlier. Maybe other rooms are ok, but room 7 is definitely not the best.

This room is a room without a window and when it gets hot, the room can get quite stuffy. We do provide fans and if we ever have a room to move you too then we will also assist you where we can. Our location is ideal for anything you wish to do in Manchester so we are glad you enjoyed this part of your stay. Zero star hotell, bad experience”
Things were stolen from my hotel room. A quite bad experience. Too small rooms and most in a condition related to war times. Cleaning was however good. The hotel was central to Piccadilly Garden, about 700 m away. Bad leadership where you should shut up to avoid violent problems. A hotel for C people, a pub hotel. But you could enjoy and have a good time with toilet and shower together with many other people, in the outsider corridor to all the hotel rooms. Kind people in reception. Problems with entrance and CCT. You must use a ladder at night-time in the dark yard and knock on the door before 11 pm.

It was fine, but the shower didn’t work, don’t go here if you’re scared of spiders, and there’s a bunch as well as dead flies stuck between the panes of glass in the window.

Room was OK, clean and tidy. Communal bathroom was not clean or tidy, or in good repair. Huge and dangerous step from the shower, with a warning notice to that effect. Not acceptable.

Not a great place for light sleepers”
I understand that you often get what you pay for in life, but no one expects to get next to no sleep in a hotel. Firstly the walls were paper thin and fire door self closers too aggressive, expect to hear doors slamming regularly. Seemed like a lot of young teens booked rooms for a party as music, laughter and chatter was very audible until 4am. They snuck friends in easily as the rear fire escape is left open for anybody to enter and leave as the front entrance is closed after around midnight. The room I was in was off a busy road and single glazed, so expect to hear traffic, pedestrians and the pub revellers into the early hours. Bring flip flops and wipes as surfaces were not always meticulously cleaned in the shared WC (heavily stained) and bedroom. Shared shower room was okay. On the first floor there are around ten sleeping rooms, 2 shared shower rooms and 1 shared WC, I imagine there may be queues at certain times in the day. There was an exclusive use wash hand basin in the bedroom

The only positive is the location. If you are on a budget please consider spending a few more quid. The noise at night is awful and the rooms are poor. DO NOT STAY HERE

Pub only and very small room in second floor very noise 24 hr you can not sleep also no water no tissue in the room ,the hotel picture you can see this is pub breakfast very simple but the staffs nice I don't understand 3 star ???? 1 star ok Thanks

Worst hotel experience I've ever had, stay away”
Not sure where to start. The room I was given was pretty much inhabitable. The mattress was so old and warn down that the springs were non-existent; the bed stand was also caved, making the bed have a huge dip in the middle, which has given me a bad lower back. The mattress was also covered in what looked urine stains. There was also no hot water in the room, the security latch to the door was practically holding on by a thread, so did not feel particularly secure, and the free wifi provided continuously cut out. And to top it off, there was loud music played from 10.30pm onwards from the bar downstairs, which I was not pre warned about - this music, coupled with the bed situation, basically made sleeping impossible. Overall, it genuinely was the worst hotel experience I have ever had, and I am not someone who likes to complain. My advice: stay away.

Provided a room that did not match what was ppsted online and agreed in the booking.”
The didn't provide the required room for my family and we couldn't sleep there.It was dirty,a bar with heavy smoking at the lobby not children friendly,the room does not have toilet and bathroom.They knew their services were very poor hence they took out money from my account before arrival which is not pro per.Other hotels usually ta kik e out money just when you check in. We couldn't stay at the hotel as it didn't provide the number of required besd,due to health and safety reasons,security,lack of private toilet and bathroom and no parking.it was also not children friendly. The description of the hotel online is significantly terrbly different from the reality.I am demanding a full refund of my money as we couldn't stay there for all thr highlighted reasons.The stsff were mot courteous.
