I never had this experience before in a 4 star hotel. I didn’t expect this hotel to be a bar restaurant. When we arrived, we couldn’t get in, since the bar was closed at noon (the next day, other customers had the same issue). We had to knock at the door of the restaurant with a lot of insistence for the staff to let us in and check in. They let us leave our luggages in our room but I expected a hotel reception. The room was clean and okay. The location was quiet good near the centre of the city. When we checked out, we couldn’t leave our luggage since it’s against their policy. This gave me a bad image of this “hotel”.

Very well situated hotel for short stay”

My husband and I stayed for a couple of nights recently. The check in process was very straightforward, we were asked if we wanted to add breakfast to our stay but decided not to. Our room was on the first floor at the front of the building so we could see the city wall and the gate clearly. It was a little noisy at night with people in the street below but nothing too bad. The bed was comfortable and bathroom clean. The room was very overheated but this was easily solved by turning the radiator off. We had everything we needed in the room; extra pillows, blankets, hairdryer, iron etc. Tea & coffee selection in the room was limited though. We didn’t eat at the hotel as smell of chips coming from kitchen was a bit off putting. Overall it’s a good place for a short stay as everything is so close by. We weren’t paying for a boutique hotel so the fact the decor was outdated wasn’t a problem as it was very comfortable. Brilliantly situated to get to everything in York.

Lovely Inn”

Highly recommend this inn. It's a stone throw away from the minster and you're literally on the old wall. Everything else is 5-10 mins away walking. The room was lovely, well sized and the bathroom is spotless. 5 stars.

Great location in York”

We enjoyed our stay at the Lamb and Lion very much. Wonderful staff (over and above the norm for service), nice variety for breakfasts. The room was comfortable and airy and not as small as I was led to believe from other reviews. The location in York was superb - right at a gate (bar) that leads to the city wall and within walking distance to everything in the old city and bell ringing distance from York Minster. A short walk from the train station. Not much vehicle traffic on the street so if you are driving (not our case) make prior arrangements for parking. Wanted to give a shout out to a night porter (sorry didn't get his name) who filled in at the breakfast service at a moment's notice and although he had never done this job, made out wonderfully. The staff members were all pleasant and friendly and welcoming.

Disappointing ”

Advertising as double executive rooms however they are very small and weirdly shaped...ours had a strange passageway to the bathroom. The TV remote didn't work and the pillows were like sleeping on lots of lumpy sponge. There's no room to move around and the noise of people and barrels being changed was ridiculous. We were on the 2nd floor, up 2 flights old stairs. This hotel is not suitable for people with disabilities. Overall We would not stay here again. The only positive was that the staff are friendly and the breakfast was acceptable.

This a very old Inn Lots of old world charm a short walk to the Cathedral. During the day the road outside the hotel is only for pedestrians, which means your GPS will not locate the Inn, when you do locate it, the parking is a good Ten minute walk away. My suggestion is when making Reservations you ask the Inn for directions, it will save a lot of aggravation Driving around a strange City

No Elevator. We were right at the top of the house and as we only had carryon luggage it was no problem. Also the lovely staff will bring it up. It was the weekend students started back, they were noisy outside late at night. Otherwise a great stay.

Within walking distance of the Minster, the Lamb & Lion is a welcoming stop in the interesting and picturesque city of York. We enjoyed several meals and without exception they were delicious and well priced. When there was an unexpected problem in our bathroom we were quickly moved to their best room available. Definitely a hotel to return to.

York visit”

The Lamb and Lion provides excellent accommodation, great food and really friendly staff. Parking is a bit of a challenge but this did not spoil our trip, ask them for a parking permit when you book.

Wonderful location and staff”

We had a wonderful visit to York. The staff were attentive to all of our needs. They also were very helpful with directions. Will stay there again when we visit York. It's also in a great location. Thanks.

Over night stay for a birthday celebration ”

A really friendly and hospitable place to stay . Really appreciated the fact we could leave our luggage safely after check out until later in the day ..the staff most helpful and polite.. would definitely stay again .room very clean and comfortable food very good

The room was described as deluxe double - it was not delux”

The room was sold as deluxe double - it was not. Room 12 was in the attic up a very steep and narrow staircase. Room only has small skylights and no windows. Room was poorly equipped with no chest of drawers to put clothes and no dressing table or mirror . The bathroom was tiny and under the eaves. The wash basin was the size normal for an under stairs cloakroom. It is difficult to see how this could be 4 stars. Your site stated the pre discount price if the room at £327 discounted to £160. In our opinion the room should have been less than £100. Very disappointed.

Cannot fault this hotel good food and a perfect central location everything a bit on the small side and noise early in the morning with bin collection areound 6am but would definitely recommend this place

Charming hotel right next to the cathedral”

Great staff, charming hotel, wonderful food, and all very close to the minstrel. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Lamb and Lion.
