Cannot recommend highly enough. The place is well-sited - it's a 5 minute walk to the station at a good pace - and very interesting. I spent a very happy afternoon in teh museum - there's a discount for guests - and it was fascinating. The chapel (which is open for guests too) is very beautiful The staff were friendly and went over-and-beyond to help. The breakfast was super (and I appreciated the flexibility in the times as I had to leave early on the Sunday, they cooked me something to order and in good time before I had to leave). The room maybe is a bit outdated and small but overall very comfortable. The bed was not the comfiest but everything else was great - good Wifi and plenty of tea/coffee provided. Overall: comfortable stay, lovely staff, heritage to the building and good food. 10/10.

A very good place to stay and ”
The room was not big but perfectly comfortable and adequate. Our windows were above the glazed courtyard, ie. not the street side of the building, which meant it was absolutely quiet - lovely. It was very clean and comfortable, facilities in the room were very good, breakfast was very good (especially the home made granola and the staff very friendly. It's only 4 minutes walk from the station, 1/2 minute from the nearest point to start a walk around the city walls, 1 minute from a good Italian basement restaurant and 3 minutes from several cafes and pubs, 3 minutes from the very comfortable Everyman cinema and a 15 minute walk over the river to the city centre and to Yorvik Museum.

Clean, warm accommodation, great location”
I found The Bar Convent an excellent place to stay. Very clean, warm, comfortable, friendly and an excellent central location. Great facilities and breakfast. I will definitely use again and highly recommend.

Extremely comfy bed - had a great sleep . Cosy room, plenty of teas/coffees to choose from, very clean, nice shower, quiet, not too far from central York, friendly staff, reasonable price and tasty breakfast - what more could you ask for?

This was our first visit to the Bar Convent, we had a lovely stay the rooms were spotless, the breakfast was a really good choice, and the staff were wonderful. this is the place to go if you want a quiet and peaceful break. I would certainly recommend the Bar Convent to anyone visiting York.

Honest efficient friendly hospitality ”
Lovely stay in a great York location we came for race day and the Bar Convent is lovely - no commercial, sterile modernisations, just lovely honest efficient and friendly service from reception to room attendants to breakfast room assistants Room satisfactory maybe a wee bit warm but with weather changing this will be a benefit And fabulous location 10 mins walk to centre 20 mins walk to racecourse

It’s located in a heritage building and all things are vintage but well suited. The staffs are friendly. The breakfast is really good. I would highly recommend it .

Interesting Place”
This was a fun experience. I've never stayed in a place without an ensuite bathroom. I thought it would bother me, but it was never busy. It was neat to stay in a convent. The staff was so helpful and the breakfast was great. We stayed in a family room on the 3rd floor. It was warm in there, but we just kept the windows open. The garden outside was beautiful! Great location!

My room is a single room with shared bathroom on top of this building. The bathroom & toilet are very clean. Shared kitchen & living room are very nice too! You can cook and have laundry easily there. Since the lift can't reach the top floor, you need to climb sever1al staircase steps. But it's easy to manage. All staff are very nice, especially Phillp who moved my heavy suitcase to my room when the lift is out of order. DON'T MISS the breakfast coz it is wonderful! Location is great, just less than 10 mins walking from train station. You can also walk to most sightseeing spots! Anyway, it's a gem in York

Great location! Excellent breakfast served from 0745 midweek! Only negative car parking is at the council run site adjacent to the Bar Convent, which has to be paid for! The parking inspectors were out checking vehicles at 2015 on a Sunday night.

Lovely base for beautiful York”
We stayed at the Bar Convent for one night to attend a family wedding. The staff were very friendly and went out of their way to make sure that we could have our room early to dress for the wedding. The room was compact but very clean and we had everything we needed. The breakfast was plentiful and freshly cooked. Thank you for a lovely stay. We would definitely stay here again.
