Perfect central location ”

Right in the centre, 10 minute walk from the train station and loads of shops and bars in walking distance so perfect for a couple getaway. The place was clean, good size room, we literally only slept there as we were out all day and left at check out time. Great little tea making facility on the middle floor, perfect for a late night/early morning bru. It was noisy when we came home as the bar underneath was still open but it didn’t disrupt our sleep. If you want somewhere quiet this isn’t the place for you. Location and friendly staff was spot on. Would stay again with friends in the bigger dorm rooms if just going again for one night.

Lovely place. Facilities good for a couple bed big and comfy. Can be noisy but ear plugs do the trick.

Nice place”

No social feel, no counters for staff. Very minimal facilities in hostel other than the room itself. Shared toilet in room means people from other rooms walk in to your room to use the toilet. However , place was spacious, clean and staff were friendly.

Excellent Hotel”

Located right in the heart of the town. Within a walking distant from York train station as well as all the nearby attractions. Room with modern interior design. Provide a kitchen and laundry for self-service. Having FOC hot chocolate. Helpful staff.

Great staff, facilities and presentation”

My stay at the fort in a shared dorm was pleasant. Location is fantastic, right in the middle of town and near all of the main attractions. Staff were very friendly and welcoming, a shout out to the lovely cleaner! The facilities on offer in the communal kitchen/common area(for free - most places would charge!) were fantastic considering the price. My only complaint about this place are the mattresses - I woke up a few times in the night with springs digging in to my back/ribs - though it could have just been my bed...

Everything was perfect! Location is great! Easy to get shambles street and york minster! Staffs were so nice and condition was the best among I've ever been! Toilet is so clean and tidy I will book this hostel again if I have any chance to go york!

Fantastic hostel ”

The fort is the first time I have stayed in a hostel, and I absolutely loved it. It’s was clean, warm and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. I will be coming back. The one and only down side are all the stairs.

Incredibly noisy”

The Fort Boutique hostel is in a very central spot in the city centre which is definitely a big plus, but it is literally above a bar. The noise at night is extremely loud, when you close the window it is still loud. It also was not clean, dust on the ceiling, peeling wallpaper, and flies in the room. We were right next to the kitchen vents so there was a continues smell of fry in the room. If you dont have issues with these things, then definitely book this place because the staff is amazing and the restaurant under the hostel serves amazing breakfast with 20% discount if you stay at the hostel.

Grt location ”

Modern hostel has everything needed,provided with towels tea/coffee making facilities, kitchen. Even get 20% of from Kennedy bar had the breakfast buttie which was delicious. Only con is it is over the main thoroughfare so noise was as if u were in a disco as stayed over on a Saturday night so music was extremely loud, had gallery room. Maybe wk days be quite. Staff very friendly.

Fantastic place to stay ”

Staff were welcoming, thoughtful and helpful. The room was above expectation and the shower amazing. A wonderful place in the centre of everything. And breakfast at Kennedy's in the morning was fantastic.

Positives: Spacious female dorm which comes with a small but useful locker to store your documents etc. Facilities include a huge lounge area with a kitchen, free coffee, free laundry facilities, free towels and a discount at the restaurant and bar downstairs. Negative: the noise from the bar downstairs travels upstairs and continues until 2:00 am. The bathrooms are outside the rooms which is good, but they are only a few bath-come-toilets which might get busy if more guests are staying. Also, the heat was turned up in the bathroom during my stay (June) which made it extremely hot and uncomfortable.

Great place and facilities, however I wasn't aware it was above a busy night life spot and I came to York for a bit of rest and relaxation so sleeping above what was practically a night club was annoying. Would recommend this place to the party goers and night life seekers!

Fantastic location in the centre of York. The room was bright, and well equipped with toiletries, bottled water etc. There was even a view of the Minster spires over the rooftops! As would be expected from the city centre location above a bar there was some noise in the evening, but no more than would be anticipated and it didn't cause any problems getting to sleep. We were however woken at 4am by someone knocking on the door claiming to be from "security" - we did not answer and so cannot confirm whether this was a genuine request or not. The room was, while not cheap in absolute terms, very good value for the location and the facilities. Highly recommended.

The best of choice in York”

You must to booking this hostel. It is the best for everyone to travel in York. You have to spend a little time for walking to heritage e.g York Minster, The shambles, Betty's Afternoon tea. And you get 20% discount at Kennedy's bar and restaurant.

Good location and facilities”

The hostel's location is great although it is not easy to find without google map. There is a kitchen in the hostel and so it's good for travellers who would like to save some money from dining outside. The only thing to consider is that there is not any elevator and so one has to carry their luggage upstairs for at least two floors. Overall, I would recommend this hostel to travellers with limited budget.

Impromptu visit to York ”

First time staying here- won't be the last! A fantastic little find in an amazing location- the street was buzzing in the evening and our room was spot on. Such good value for money in a private room- cheaper and nicer than a budget hotel. Loved it!

Hidden Gem in the Heart of York”

Stay here. Period. The value for the money was unbeatable, especially considering the location- nestled in the old city center, practically in the shadow of the cathedral- as well as the amenities and the wonderful staff. We had not just a room but an entire floor (bedroom, toilet, shower, full kitchen) to ourselves. Whether this was due to luck or is house policy, I do not know. The place was cozy, clean, and well outfitted, not to mention attractive- I feel somewhat silly saying so considering what a no-frills traveler I tend to be, but appearance and feel can and do make a difference after a while on the road. You get that here without paying through the nose for it. A caveat: we noticed sets of earplugs laid out on either side of the bed for us, as the bar below which operates these rooms has live music some nights. I imagine the streets below may be a little more lively on the weekends as well. We happened to stay on a weekday, so no real bother. Second thing to be aware of: the heating unit is not always turned on when guests occupy the room. A quick trip downstairs to the bar to ask for help brought a friendly and helpful employee up to demonstrate how to operate the heating controls for the entire flat, and that was that. No fuss.
