this was our second visit .we stayed in a courtyard room great clean room really good shower all the self catering equipment you could need. the staff again were very friendly and helpful the great thing about this yha is how close to York centre it is just a short walk via the river path or on the road

Good hostel for travellers, especially those on a budget ”

We stayed at YHA York for 2 nights and had a nice experience. We booked a room for 2 people with a bunk bed. Everything was clean and in good condition, except they didn't provide towels (we wouldn't complain on this since they'd already notified in advance). Wifi was accessible in the room. You might have to climb as there's no lift. The hostel is not far from the Yorkminster (20 minutes walk). However, if you arrive at the train station then probably buses or taxis are better than getting on foot. Bus 2 (park and ride) is available within walking distance and takes you directly to the centre or the train station within few minutes. Taxis only take less than 5 minutes and cost £5-6. We accidentally cancelled our booking for the 1st night and arrived after midnight, fortunately the guy at reception on 3/4 Sep night was very helpful and he also let us stay in the same room for the 2nd night, although the 2 bookings were separated: 1 made at reception and the other on agoda. He was also very kind to lend my sister a hairdryer for free, usually you have to pay £2 and deposit £5. Another staff on 5 Sep early morning was also a great one. Without him continuously calling a taxi for a few times (since it was very early and drivers took about 30 minutes to arrive), we would've been late for our train at 6:30am. The other staffs were also friendly. Self-catering kitchen is equipped with enough devices and cutlery. Just remember to label your food and clean after dining. The hostel also offer several tours with cheaper price. Compared to other hostels I have stayed before in York, I would definitely recommend YHA York if you're travelling on a budget.

It’s a bit far from the city center, but nice hostel”

It took us around 20 minutes walk to the tourist attractions in the city center, and 30-40 minutes walk with our luggage.. However, the hostel was nice, the staff were very friendly and the kitchen was perfect.. Although quite far, we still enjoy walking by the river side to and from the hostel..

Nice YHA hostel in York”

This hostel is probably one of the BEST hostel I have ever stayed (one of my roommates also made this comment too). This YHA hostel is located in a quiet area away from the city centre. The hostel was very nice. It doesn't looks like a hostel to me; I think it is even better than some 2 or 3 stars hotel. The lobby was spacious (even with a pool table) with many seats for people to make friends. The breakfast area was also nice overlooking a garden. I was given a 8-bed room with 5 guests staying during my stay. I will stay here again.

Historical building which gives you access to the central area within 10 min by walk. Clean hostel in general and gold medal for the staff, specially for the blonde receptionist with glasses, for the special attention and brilliant recommendations as where and how to go so some places. I'd recommend to all of my friends. I'd definitely stay again.

Best hostel”

It must be the best hostel I have stayed during my whole travel. Except the location, everything is perfect! The shower is the best of all hostels I stayed. The location is a little bit far from central and no supermarket nearby. Walking to railway station needs 20min and the nearest Sainsbury is in 15min by walk

Pros: Clean, big kitchen to cook, laundry service, friendly staff Cons (little): Quite far from the center (about 20 min walking but the route down the river is very scenic so no problem at all). Otherwise, take bus number 2 which run very frequent. Bus stop is around 3 min from the hostel.

Far and dirty hostel in York ”

The hostel is far away from the train station and Center of York. It's neither near to any bus station and grabing a taxi is also not possible. Not suggest to those traveller with heavy lauggages with them as the walk from train station to the hostel may take nearly 30mins. The mattress, sheets and pillow smells awful and I found the only washing machine in the laundry of the hostel is washing the mop. I can't imagine that the sheets washed with those mop before I use! It's awful! The bedroom is also far away which we need to carry our lauggages upstairs, walking through a long corridor and upstairs and walk and downstairs and walk and upstairs. You may image how tortuous the route leading to the room is.

OK budget choice - a bit faded”

It was for a twin room with shared bathroom - price felt about right. It's YHA, so you have to make your bed, and go down the corridor to a shower. Decor all a bit tired/grubby outside the room which is only functional (as you'd expect at the price). It was a little noisy in the night as guests came back - despite receptionist's plea that the young men who checked in with me not make too much racket. However, it's in a good place: you can walk from city centre back along the river (if you don't mind the dark) in about 15 minutes. In the morning the cooking smells from breakfast were a bit unappetizing and we went elsewhere.
