My husband and I stayed here for 4 nights. We had a lovely time here. The front desk staff was able to speak English and were very helpful. There's a little cafe in the hotel called Lulu's cafe and we had breakfast there several times, loved the food! Out of all of our hotels that we stayed at in Japan, this was our favourite. The location is very convenient, there are convenient stores nearby, it's not a far walk from the nearest subway stations, and the area is safe and quiet (but not too quiet). We had our room cleaned every day while we were out. We loved the bathroom, the water pressure was strong, and we had lots of hot water to take baths. Would recommend this to our friends for sure. It would be even better if there were some sort of laundry service on site!

Good: ueno hood had plenty to offer, most within walking distance. To be improved: staff barely speaks english; need to handover key to the reception before u leave hotel; room can be cleaner; Overall the price is a match of the quality, would recommend.

It was our first time in Japan and we really had a great time staying at Ueno First City Hotel. The hotel is approximately 10-minute walk from Ueno Station via Skyliner. It was easy to find via Google maps. The location is also good because it is near train stations (Yushima, Okachimachi, and Ueno) and stores (Family Mart, Lawson, Don Qui, etc). The staff were accommodating. We stayed at Ueno for 8 days and we had no problems during our stay.

It's our first day in japan, and ueno first city hotel set a high standard for what i am expected for a places to stay in japan. Quite near from the main station for tourist, and there is a convenience store Next to the hotel. The room altough small, is really clean and neat. Bathroom is good. Amenities is great ( i like the shampoo), and the hot water is really nice. The staff is helpful, but cant speak english.

Ueno first city hotel is a very nice and good location hotel. It's just 1block from the yushima station exit 4. Walking distance is the Akihabara and Ueno. The hotel has no English channel in their tv... All japanese...but they have free wifi...the hotel personnels are good.

What a deal!”
The location is a modest walk from Okachimachi Station, which connects via train or subway to just about anywhere in Tokyo. The hotel is about a 15-minute walk from Ueno Station. Bags may be checked before checkin and after checkout! I stayed 6 nights here, and can't imagine a better deal in Tokyo. One potential drawback: the coin laundry has just one washer and one dryer. Excellent staff, very helpful.

reasonable price for a good stay”
This is our second stay at this hotel. My husband especially favors it because of its proximity to Akihabara, which we found was only a leisurely 15-20 minute walk away, or no time at all in pleasant weather. We also love how it's close to Ueno Park, the discount areas in Okachimachi, and the train stations in Ueno. Entrance to the subway in Yushima is only 5 minutes away. I see this hotel as catering to Japanese businessmen first, travelers second. The rooms are decidedly small, but this is Japan, and if you're not out before 2pm they'll call to tell you that housekeeping needs to clean. There's no closet, but there are hooks to hang coats on. Our room had my personal essentials of a mini-ref, an electric kettle, and a hairdryer, and an internet connection. Don't care much about the lack of channels in the TV because the wifi was fast. If we usually can't find anything cheaper or better located in Tokyo, this is our default hotel.

Excellent location and Clean”
We only stayed for 1 night, The hotel with perfect location in quiet area, only few mins walk to all restaurants and shops in Ueno. Reception is nice, with every amenities. The room looks newly renovated and especially the bathroom is very clean. The bedding and pillow is so comfortable (not too soft). LAWSON/FamilyMart is just downstairs opposite.Good price comparing with other hotels in Ueno. Will stay again!

Great value and location, but cleanliness was rather disappointing”
Was in town for 3 days for a work conference at Tokyo Uni and found Ueno First City Hotel to be one of the cheaper, decent accommodations close to the University. Staff were really great and friendly. However I did find that the room was not cleaned well. Carpets and areas under the table and sofa were pretty dusty, while the toilet seat had some greasy lotion over it. My stay was otherwise pleasant, and would recommend this property to travellers on a budget but still looking for something decent. P.S. It was interesting that you have to leave the room key at reception whenever you leave the hotel for the day. Found it rather amusing.

Great hotel, easy navigating!”
this was my first time in japan and i was attending two baseball games at the tokyo dome. tokyo is within walking distance, just head out of the hotel and head west. very easy. if you've never been to japan before and stay here, use landmarks as navigation points. its very easy to get lost. mcdonalds is two blocks away, near the train station that you'll take to narita airport. virtually no crime and hotel is very quiet. staff speaks english, very helpful with tourist points you want to see.

this was the first time i've stayed at a hotel in ueno...we were booking for our trip to summer sonic in chiba. the hotel was really cheap and about a 10 minute walk to ueno station. they were out of non-smoking twin rooms for the nights we were there, so we just got a smoking room and was really surprised to find that it didn't smell bad at all. i'd say that everything was pretty average for the price...i know my friend is planning to stay there again next weekend bc of it's convenient location.

Booked a small double room. As expected, it's your typical business hotel so the rooms are small which is typical in Japan so it's a non-issue. We arrived via Keisei Skyliner. The hotel is a about 10 minutes walk from the Keisei station depending on your pace. The bustling Ueno station is just a few steps further. It can be quite of a hike if you have big bags but we only did it on arrival and departure. Location was excellent with lots of restaurants, convenience stores, shops, department stores, etc. around. Don Quijote is just two short blocks away and Ameyoko Street Market is less than 10 mins. away. It's likewise convenient to get around. Okamachi subway and JR station is 5 mins away while Yushima station is just around the corner. It would take you just around 30 minutes or less to get to the other major areas of interest in Tokyo. Rooms are clean and has everything you need i.e. Toiletries, robe, slippers, mini-ref, etc. Staff are friendly and can communicate in basic English.

This hotel is a small gem at Ueno. Shops, restos and trains are all a stone throw’s away from this hotel. Comfortable and clean and will definitely give you a good night’s sleep after a long day of exploring tokyo 😄
