A wonderful stay”
I checked in at University House for the second time this year and it was just as wonderful as my first visit. The view was not as magnificent this time but it was still very pleasant and close to everything. Thanks again!

Upgraded to a much better room”
The only downside was the room did not have a microwave, otherwise I would have rated it as 5 stars. Comfortable bed, lovely little verandah and on the ground floor. Large and spacious room.

Good, decent accommodation”
University house is a pleasant, decent, clean accommodating. It was very generous in room size, indeed, it was more an apartment than a typical hotel room. Everything about the stay was satisfactory and we found nothing lacking. I would definitely recommend this hotel and would not hesitate to stay there again.

Traditional Hotel”
Very good in all aspects. The location is in the ANU, which is not as good if you are having activities in the city.

Unchanged over many years - a good thing too!”
I last stayed at University House on the grounds of the Australian National University (ANU) in 1976 as a Visiting Fellow. The ambience and the tranquility of University House has not changed much in all those years. There is an attempt to allow residents (guests) to have the space and the amenities of former years. Forty years on it is as if time has stood still. Although the furniture, carpets, bathroom have been remodelled and renewed in between time it is in keeping with the original designs for University House. On this occasion we were attending an Opera Gala at Llewellyn Hall which is also located on the grounds of ANU and our choice of accomodation was driven by the nearness of the venues. We stayed in a Superior Queen room. The suite comprises 3 rooms - a lounge/study area with a large desk for writing and working, comfortable seating and the necessities of a fridge and storage area, tv and so on. It was winter (and chilly) but the aircon did a good job of keeping us warm. Running off this room was a large verandah/patio that, even in winter was sun drenched. The bedroom consisted of a good Queen bed, with robes, side tables and electric blankets to ensure a good sleep. The sleeping area faced the inner courtyard and was very quiet. The bathroom was also well appointed with a heated floor. Each room had light and windows that could be opened to regulate air flow and ventilation. The entire complex was neat as a pin and clean. We had no issues with our stay and the price was excellent for what was provided. It was like stepping back in time to when a guest was respected and cared for, so different to many of the impersonal accommodation choices today. It is worth noting that our suite was on the third floor and there are no lifts in the complex - you should ask for a lower room if you have mobility difficulties. Breakfast is available at the Fellows Cafe and the full breakfast was very satisfying at a reasonable price (a discount is provide

Retro comfort”
The original fittings and furnishing took me back to my dorm days and the folder information described how the ANU were preserving the original building and rooms. Location quiet and easy access to Canberra attractions. The setting gave a sense of academia. We were there during term holidays so not sure what the noise levels would be with all students in attendance. Rooms were well equipped for Canberra spring weather and the house keeping staff were very helpful. The only minor complaint would be the lighting was a little dim which made it a strain to read at night. The food and dining on site were at either end of the Spectrum but nothing in between. Finding somewhere to eat outside of the campus was difficult so some information or a map in the room would be helpful.

Peace in the hub of Canberra”
It has been a great experience to stay in the University House. It is a modest building in the centre of Canberra but full of peace and quietness. The facilities are very simple, but clean and organise, there is a little library where you can have a very nice chat with students and other guests. The area is surrounded by gardens and sport fields. I felt happy and reenergised as during my time in university.

nice short 1-night stay”
Just located inside ANU campus, 10-15min away from CBR airport by taxi, location is excellent. My room is 203 with a public shared shower room and bathroom provided on the same floor. My neighbor room and mine are separated with a sliding door, the sound-proofing effect is not perfect, so I need to communicate with my neighbor to turn down her video play sound for a better tranquility for my night sleep. Hotel staff is very nice and well behaved. Taxi for the airport can be reserved via the designated phone provided at the reception, you can reserve it at any time (suggest doing it 1 day in advance). 1 thing needs to pay attention that Hotel check-out time is 10:00am instead of 12:00noon normally.

Excellent”
University House is in a great location if you are visiting the university, CSIRO or botanic gardens. The facilities are old fashioned in keeping with the idea to conserve the old buildings but the room was clean and functional and included modern needs of wifi and tv. Parking also very convenient and the beer garden with food is great for a weary traveller. One comment is please get some decent varieties of apples in your fruit basket - suggest pink lady, gala or Braeburn!
