A 5-minute drive from Miyanoura Port, Wa no Cottage Sen-no-ie offers private Japanese-style cottages surrounded by nature. Guests can enjoy playing in the water, shrimp fishing and stargazing at Shiratani River a 1-minute walk away. Wooden cottages come with a tatami (woven mat) floor, on which traditional futon bedding is spread for sleeping. They are equipped with a CD player, a microwave and a fridge. A washstand and en suite toilet are provided, while bathroom facilities are shared. Sen-no-ie features goemon-buro bathtubs, which are heated from below. Guests sit on a floating wooden lid in the bath. Wa-no-cottage offers laundry services and luggage storage. The hotel is a 15-minute drive from Yakushima Airport, and a 20-minute drive from the breathtaking vistas of Shiratani Unsuikyo Ravine (Cloud Water Valley). The Senhiro Waterfalls can be admired a 50-minute drive away.

Gold standard of hospitality”

Rarely have we ever experienced the kindly, attentive but discreet, hospitality that we experienced here at Sen-no-Ie. The facilities are the epitome of relaxation: self-contained, spacious (we loved the way high ceilings), comfortable (futons that floated us to sleep), uncluttered, and all natural wood grain from underfoot to overhead. The traditional bathhouse annex was an evening delight. The setting is a sylvan idyll, a forest resort. From start to finish, it was a relaxing, reassuring, and heartwarming stay thanks to superb facilities on beautiful grounds, and gentle proprietors and staff who really care. Free parking.

This place is the best for those who want to relax and be surrounded by nature.”

Room is so clean and cozy. You can swim the river right next to the cottage in summer time. Japanese traditional style of bath was excellent. I couldn’t ask more. Chopsticks making workshop is a must to try!

The cottage was beautiful and even had an irori (fireplace) that can be used in winter. The owner was very friendly and we enjoyed flipping through his illustrated manual of how to use the Goemonburo (traditional bath). Our cottage had everything we needed, including an equipped kitchen, and the location was good - Miyanoura port, a supermarket and restaurants are nearby with a car.

Best choice in Yakushima!”

Located in quite natural place but convenient to Miyanoura harbor and Shiratani. Star night is awesome when weather is good. Facility is terrific! We got upgraded to independent bathroom and free washing machine & dryer. Last but not least, the staff are so nice and made us feel at home!

Cute cottage in the forest, great bath”

I really enjoyed the privacy of a stand-alone cottage in the middle of the forest. Since there were only a couple of other guests in the hotel, we could also enjoy the bath fully privately. The location is perfect as a base to hike Shiratani Unsuikyo: a short car ride to the trail head.

The most pleasant place we stayed in during our trip to Kyushu. Extremely nice design, large and comfortable, located near the port but very quiet surroundings, near a stream. No meals available but with a kitchenette and dishes. Sen's son who received us spoke good English and answered all our questions. Highly recommended for a couple, a family or several families travelling together.

Fabulous experience: Quiet, clean and cozy cottage in the nature.The hosts were very helpful.”

We had our own spacious cottage with a terrace facing a small garden. We had a shared bathroom that looked like a small onsen, big, extremely clean and with a hot bath, also facing the nature. We slept so well!! We didn't have a car and the host drove us and our friends to the ferry pier; this was very nice of them.
