Best hotel”
Best experience ever. Couldn't express how perfect is our experience in Wa no Sato Ryokan. Their staff are so nice and heart warming. Everything is settled and handled nicely and detailed. Although not many of them could speak a lot of english it doesnt really matter as all of them are so willing to help and communicate with you. Must mention that the meal provided were so delicious. Definitely would like to spend more time in this ryokan next time. Our room has a scenic view so do both public bath rooms.

A must do for a traditional Ryokan w/ onsen”
While in Japan, we wanted to experience a night in a traditional ryokan with an onsen. This was supposed to be one of the best in Japan, and it didn't disappoint. While a bit expensive, the welcome, the room, the food, the service, the location, the onsen, and the sake around a roaring fire after dinner, made it well worth it. All superb. Highly recommended if you're in and around Takayama, and want to experience Japan at its best!

Exceptional traditional experience”
In a world of modern "chain" experiences, our time at the Wano Sato Ryokan was in contrast a stimulating immersion into old Japan. The meals were delicious and exquisite in its presentation which matched the tranquility and stunning view from our room. The ritual of bathing in the onsen (hot spring bath) perfectly completed the stay.

A simply wonderful once in a lifetime experience”
With a mountain stream running in from of every window in the room (as well as in front of the public baths and dining room), the view and atmosphere is ethereal. The location is 10 minutes outside of Takayama and the Hida cultural park - far enough away to be in another world, close enough to see the sites with easy. The Kaseike dinner and breakfast was top rate - served in our room. Fully modern bathroom attached to a multi-room suite which could have been built yesterday - or one hundred years ago. For a rare Japanese experience this is highly recommended!

Beautiful space, friendly staff”
I was blown away by how beautiful the space was. A little rustic, but that is characteristic for Takayama. The staff spoke a surprising amount of English, and what we lost in translation, they made up for in friendliness and warmth. Our primary waiter Mika-San was particularly kind, as was the driver, whose name I didn’t catch. All in all, a FANTASTIC stay.

Most relaxing hotel!”
The stream running next to the ryokan and the view from our room was so tranquil and bliss. Also the onsen is beautiful. It's great because there are two; a rocky one, and a wooden one. In the mornings the rocky onsen is female, then they swap in the afternoon. Beautiful hotel, would highly recommend.

Beyond my expectations”
This ryokan is a destination. The ambiance, service and setting make this a place to explore and experience. If you want a dinner in Old Town don't eat anywhere buy Koya. Another top notch establishment.

nice but there are better”
Arranged to be picked up by the shuttle service but no one turned up so ended up getting a taxi and claiming the fare back. The evening meal and breakfast were excellent. Biggest disappointment was that there was no private Onsen to spend time with your partner of the opposite sex. We have stayed at the Fugiya Onsen and all round that was better. The Saki drinking with the older gentleman was a unique and very good experience though and I would recommend any one who stays here to join him, he is a true character. I would recommend this place but it doesn’t quite tick all the boxes

Great location but the facilities show their age. This is a resort past its prime and needs refresh.”
This is no five star. The location besides a gushing stream is the best part.

Pure serenity”
The room/suite had everything including heated floors. The food was impeccable and the onsen excellent as well. The evening hot sake after dinner around the traditional fire in the main house was such a unique experience. 10/10

Vraiment authentique !”
