Awesome outdoor hot spring by cable car and in our room as well! Super nice! Nice and beautiful dinner and breakfast! Highly recommend!!!

Great Onsen and kaiseki dinner”

Hotel Iyaonsen is one of the most secluded onsen retreats as you have to take a five minute cable car to get to the bottom of the valley to experience the open air onsen which is highly recommended. If you stay overnight, the kaiseki dinner is also top quality. Do note that there is not much around the hotel except the peeing boy statue, so it is better to travel by car or rely on the local bus which is not that frequent.

Onsen hotel along Iya valley”

Nice hotel on the hill side along iya valley. Clean room. We booked a Japanese style room with open air onsen. To access the public open air bath we need to take a 5-minute tram rides down to the valley next to the river. However, water temperature was not hot enough. The water was source directly though. The public indoor onsen needs an upgrade. Food wise, less meat and more towards plant base.

Location is not very convenient if you are not driving. The staff is sincere and very helpful. ”

We love everything about it. The best sleep ever and the water of the spa is so good. Instantly your skin looks beautiful! The food was amazing. I recommend you check in the minute check-ins are open at 3pm and don't leave until check out at 11am the next day. Even that is not enough time. Spend at least 2 nights there if you can afford it.

Unusual onsen stay”

1st experience needing to travel cable car down to valley (within the onsen vicinity) for outdoor onsen ! Cable car is operated by the hotel itself ! Very interesting indeed . This place is also available for day time use onsen without needing to stay in if you don’t wanna stay in ( as the onsen is a little more expensive) Our Kaiseki meal can be better I felt ; would be good if we could choose a better option when we book . I see guests eating a better set than ours … Staffs are very nice and could speak reasonably English .good effort ! Overall , recommended for the experience !

Wonderful, upmarket ryokan in spectacular location ”

I chose this ryokan based on photo of outdoor onsen. It didn’t disappoint . Cable car to river dressed in yukata lots of fun. Water temp of outdoor onsen 38C so you can stay in longer. Water has unique silky feel. Public indoor onsen is hotter with amazing views. Dinner& breakfast in cafe incredibly varied. Japanese style room beautiful. ALL staff very friendly. Communication in English a bit tricky but with patience, doable. Overall, a very happy experience.

Booked the room with private onsen bath and it was absolutely beautiful - super spacious with a great layout, very well fit out with everything you ever need such that you do not need to unpack! The private bath faces the mountain and you get a great view of the snow as well while in the onsen bath. Meals were really good with a wide variety of natural ingredients provided. Only gripes were that the massage chair in the room wasn’t working very well, and the drive up the mountain can be quite nerve wrecking with the single lane for two-way traffic and especially in the snow. Would also recommend the hotel build a shelter for the car park which would be very helpful in snowy/rainy situations.

Highly recommended. The service was really good and Both indoor and outdoor onsen was great . Massage chair was great with great music. Taking a cable car down to the outdoor onsen is really unique and special.

Lovely ryoken with great breakfast”

ONSEN WAS GOOD ,PRIVATE ONSEN FOR 2 WELL WORH THE EXTRA.Very generous breakfast where usual multi course supplemented by buffet style cereals,coffee machine and fruit etc .Even provided cups so you could take coffee out .Very helpful manager helped us book ferry.

Enjoyed my stay tremendously. Room was extremely clean and nice. Massage chair was great with onsen music CDs curated for different times of the day. Both indoor and outdoor onsen was great, very clean and sufficient amenities provided. The half board was also very good with a good selection of beer and sake. Staff were all very friendly and helpful! Highly recommend! The experience taking a cable car down to the outdoor onsen is really unique and fun.

秘境の温泉宿”

宿への道中と環境は秘境感がありますが、館内の設備やお部屋はモダンで、サービスも我儘な現代風のニーズに充分耐え得る行き届いたものです。 他の人気宿の運営をよく研究しているんだろうなというのがトータルの感想です。 お料理も山奥なのでそんなに期待はしていなかったのですが、山の幸を中心にとても充実していました。強いて言えばジビエがランチで売り切れていたのが心残り。それぐらいしか残念なことが思い付かない程に満足のいく滞在でした。
