Great value, good location, busy dorm! ”
The West End Hostel was a great base for a week in Edinburgh; it was great value and the staff were really friendly. I was in the 24 bed dorm, which was pretty busy, although most of the time this wasn't a problem for me.

A nice, quiet place near the Water of Leith with a friendly staff.”
The Location is satisfactory. You are a 15 min walk away from Prince's Street and the nearest of the city center, and 45 min away from the furthest of the city center. The area is residential and quiet, but down the street you have a main street from Prince's Street to the Haymarket, where you have pubs, shops, smaller, cheaper restaurants as well as nicer ones. If you like to spend the night out partying, be ready for a ~40 min walk to the most active part of the town. On the other hand, the Hostel is situated 10 mins away from the beautiful and peaceful Water of Leith, which would be a highlight for those who want to enjoy a quiet afternoon in this small pocket of nature inside the city. So +1 to the location thanks to this. The Hostel has its own bar on the floor ground, common facilities downstairs and rooms and bathrooms upstairs. The bar is open to all with average to slightly above average prices (including your resident discount). That area is extremely nice and clean, and on some nights the bar is a nice plce to hang out peacefully, on some others there are activities planned (live music, quizzes...). The common facilities and room on the other hand are only cleaned once a week, on monday. A lot of people using only a couple stalls, the bathroom can be pretty unclean. They have suffered quite a lot from the use as well. The kitchen is okay-ish clean, although I believe the rules regarding cleaning and dishwashing should be better enforced. The bed linens were not all really clean. The common room ("backpacker's lounge") is not great (a couple tables, a tv, a computer), but there is a nice small, quiet (again, residential area), garden with a couple tables. On the other hand, the kitchen is pretty cool with a variety of utensils (although most are in poor condition), and you have access to various plugs and lockers. The staff was for the most part extremely friendly and helpful. All in all, recommended for someone solo traveling or in couple looking for

Valuable for money but there is a pickpocket inside the hostel”
It is valuable for money. The distance is quite far from the railway station but you can go by walking. The hostel location is near the Haymarket that we can find a lot of food. Unfortunately, my friend was suffered from a pickpocket that stole her purse in a kitchen of the hostel in our last day morning. You should be careful in the public areas here. The staff is very useful, he helped us look for CCTV. We phoned a policeman then they came to help us. However, we could not find the pickpocket. Thank you everyone.

Have a great night stay ”
I had a great night at the West End hotel. A short hair woman at the bar who is also a reception is super nice. She is friendly and check us in very fast. The room and bath room are clean and have plenty of space. The shower is modern and hotel also provide hair dryer, which I do love this a lot. Parking is free and not too far from the hotel. However the bed is quite too soft becouse there is no solid support under the bed. It is just a net under and all buildings around the hotel is looked alike. For me it's hard to find .

Great stay!!”
Travelled to Edinburgh due to Fringe, the place is very clean, staff are all helpful and friendly. The mattress is good but it might be better to remind the visitors to respect others’ sleeping time. Some of my roommates slam the door very loudly when other people are still sleeping. It might be better to open a little space for some people who may need to use laptop for tackling some business work in the midnight.

Very nice hostel”
It looks like this place has been converted from a hotel to a hostel. The facilities are really awesome and clean. The beds though have a little space when you sit up you might hit your head. Apart from that, I enjoyed my stay. It is just a little far from groceries and restaurants.

Quiet, sweet”
Loved this hostel, most staff are amazing and helpful, the manager was a little rude at check in but all other staff were lovely throughout our stay. The rooms and bathrooms are kept really clean! Great bar with live music and Scottish beer, loved it.

The best for short stay, not far away from city center, clean and good looking rooms. In my opinion toilets was too small but clean, with soap and shampoo. Good price and friendly staff. I would like to come back :)

Clean and functional but average service”
Hotel was very nice overall but way overpriced probably due to the Edinburgh festival. Also, we were not informed that the breakfast times during weekdays end half an hour earlier (versus weekends) and were surprised to come downstairs only to be told curtly that they could not serve us breakfast as the kitchen was closed.

Very good”
Even though it was clean and the facilities were nice enough, the atmosphere was not that cozy. There was no AC in the room, so we had to keep the windows open (because we were 12 people in the dorm), which was a bit annoying since there was a road with car traffic outside. It wasn't a bad hostel at all, but I'm sure there are better ones in the city.

they were really kind to let me have a shower since i arrived early and couldnt check into my room as yet. Good wifi coverage.nice bar area and generally a good hotel. the reception and the bar area the same place but its convenient enough. location is a little far from the city centre, about 10 mins walk but the roads always seemed to be lively.

lovely time near the city centre.”
Had a lovely time there. the bedroom was clean and tidy, other people with whom I was sharing the room were very respectful. the location is surely one of the best attributes of this hotel as well as the staff, which was always available to help and advise. the only problem was the restaurant's timetable...it was very strict! I was never able to have dinner, because it was closed for dinner on those days.

Very good option ”
This is a very good option if you want to stay a little outside of the tourist route, but still very close to the city center. It's not the type of hostel to meet other travelers, but the bar is nice. The night I stayed there a group of other guests shouted and run up and down the stairs for hours and nobody said anything, so it's a bit of a noisy place
