What amazing staff”
The stay was so amazing I extended for another night. The staff, an interesting group of japanese and foreigners, are so friendly and inviting. The owner Takashi is a fantastic host and with his staff they made my experience unforgettable. We enjoyed nice drinking parties, hiking, onsen and takoyaki party too. They really make you feel apart of the family. Yakushima is full of so much beauty and Suginoko is the best place to enjoy it to the fullest! I hope to be able to visit again!

The environment was great. Very quiet and clean and a great location right across the street from the bus stop. Haruka was very friendly and helpful and went out of her way to be a great host for us. Will be staying here again!

The place is fantastic! The rooms are simple but nice and the hotel is basically next to the bus stop. In addition to the delicious breakfast, the staff will prepare you a packed lunch for 500 yen which is super convenient and tastes great. The staff in general is very kind and helpful in all kinds of matters. And Kokage the goat was so cute! I will definitely stay here again!

We stayed 3 nights here in Japanese style rooms. Rooms are clean and spacious, you can use the kitchen which we did. Owner is super friendly and if felt for us more like visiting a friend than staying in a guesthouse. Great relaxed atmosphere and beautiful surrounding of nature. Nothing to complain.

Great bed and breakfast”
I loved my stay at Yakushima Minshuku Suginoko. Friendly staff, plenty of info about what to do, where to go etc., excellent breakfast and fabulous bento boxes (perfect to go hiking), nice common space and kitchen, and the cutest goat ever! The room was basic but clean and with its private bathroom.

Disappontment!”
Not sure how to reconcile the many good reviews to our experience. At reception, the staff did not provide any explanation around the (limited) facilities or surrounding area. When we asked about a recommendation for a place to eat, we were actually given wrong information. The room was simple and relatively clean, but the bathroom is old and the shower curtain covered in mold. When we came back from dinner at 11pm, the owner and his friends were drinking and laughing loudly in the common parts. They did not have the courtesy of toning down the festivities and let the guest enjoy a good night of sleep, and did not even clean up after themselves, since we found scattered rubbish and empty bottles the next morning. For the entire stay there was no internet connection whatsoever. In the morning there was no staff available! Other guests had booked breakfast and to find any staff (and their breakfast), but had to leave without any food. We also left at 10am without having met any staff.

Friendly and cosy guest house”
My wife and I stayed at Suginoko for three nights while enjoying the sights of Yakushima. We had a car and find the location very convenient. It's less than a five minute drive from the Anbo ferry and roughly equidistant between Shiratani and Yagusukiland. Our room was clean and spacious though please note that the Japanese-style floors do not leave much space for luggage. The shower was strong and warm, and perfect after a hike. Most important was the warm company of our two hostesses. Their friendly nature and help was a highlight of our stay. Highly recommended.

Perfect Guesthouse to explore Yakushima”
The Guesthouse is a 10' waök outside of Anbo in a very wuite an beautiful garden. The staff is very welcoming, speaks good english and helps you with your tours and trips on Yakushima. The house is great, and super nicky kept. Our room was spatious, hand a lot of space for luggage and our things. And it was very clean. The breakfasts (One could also have them to go for trekking) were japanese style and cooked freshly every mornig, so that was a perfect start into the day! When it rained very heavely they drove us to the restaurant to habe dinner, and even came to pick us up after dinner. There is a washer and dryer that is for the guests to use, one can also air dry the laundry in a big shed. It was a fantastic stay!!

One of my best stays in Japan. Room was clean and facilities were good. Haruka and the other staff were really friendly and helpful to make your stay in Yakushima a pleasant one. She helped us with our car rentals and provided good tips on where to go/eat/do. Felt like home. Would definitely come back again.

Definitely a great place to stay for a few days if you plan on hicking in Yakushima. The hosts are very friendly and helpfull and the place is clean and feels like a warm home. It's conveniently located close to a bus stop. Just make sure to check the bus schedules since they might differ a bit depending on the season. Overall we had a really great experience and would definitely recommend!

Our stay in Yakushima was perfect thanks to Haruka, the owner, and Noriko, staff at the guest house. Breakfast is amazing and adapted to vegetarians or vegans. We can't say anything bad about it. They even helped us booking things and getting to places. Lovely place and lovely people.

Super friendly staff”
I very much enjoyed my stay here. Everyone was super helpful and accomodating. Make sure if you book here that it is close to anbo. Try taking the ferry here, it’s much easier. Apart from that there is a supermarket, a delicious sushi and a rental for rain wear on about 20-30 minutes walking distance. The room is simple but absolutely ok for one person. Two people might fit, if you don’t have much luggage. I would definitely stay here again!
