Traditional Japanese Ryokan”
Yamanouchi is located one street adjacent to the main road along Lake Yamanaka. We arrived a bit earlier than the check-in time, but the nice lady led us to our rooms anyway. She does not speak English, but it is very easy to converse with her. She was very hospitable and thoughtful and briefed us of everything we needed to know during our stay in the Yamanaka area, like bus schedules, what to do and where to eat. Her guest house looks very traditional. The room that we had was very spacious and we could see Mt. Fuji from our window. She also has an onsen at the first floor, which is open from 4pm-10pm daily. I highly recommend that you stay in this guest house should you have the chance to visit Yamanashi. You'll really feel the Japanese vibe when you book in this ryokan! I'd like to thank our lady host for taking care of us during our short stay. Will definitely stay here again when I go back to Yamanashi.

Like visiting your grandma ”
Good hospitable place to stay. Caretaker is very warm and hospitable. You get quite a spacious room and there's a small Onsen as well. Brought my folding bike and enjoyed riding around Lake Yamanaka with Fuji on the backdrop.

Most adorable and friendly owner”
I enjoyed my stay at Yamanakako Yama no uchi Guesthouse. I was able to enjoy the view of Mount Fuji for a day but unfortunately the weather got in the way the next. She provided towels, shower kimono, and toiletries. The hotel also has a onsen. The owner is super friendly and adorable. Th language barrier made it a little difficult ( really only was an issue because I had trouble figuring out how to get to my next destination due to a typhoon) but overall, it's not too bad. Its about a 25 minute bus ride to kawaguchiko station (main station) but easy to get to. Overall, I would recommend this place!

Great value with extraordinary Japanese experience”
We chose this hotel after reading good reviews. And it was way beyond our expectations. The guesthouse located in quieter street and it was really peaceful in the night. The nearest bus stop is called Ichinohashi 一之橋. The guesthouse was just few mins walk from the bus stop. The tatami room was spacious and super comfortable. We stayed two nights and we always woke up early at 4am for taking photos on the other side of the lake. Obachan (the grandma) was always making sure if we had what we need. And she prepared warm tea for us the night before, so we could take the tea with us while staying outside taking photos and waiting for sunrise. We particularly loved the breakfast and the onsen bathroom. We will without any doubt in booking this guesthouse next time when we come back for the magic of Fujiyama and Yamanakako. おばあちゃん, ありがとう!

Relaxing at the Mt. Fuji's foot”
We felt right at home when arriving at yama no uchi guesthouse, when the landlord, a very friendly eldery lady, welcomed us with japanese green tea and mochi. Although this hotel is a "minshuku", a budget japanese inn where you usually should take care of your own stuff, the innkeeper went to great lengths to make us feel at home. But beware: English is not spoken here, though I'm quite sure that you will also get through with handwaving, considering how nice everyone was. The inn itself is a little bit old, but the rooms are very spacious. The communal bathrooms (gender-segregated) were japanese style with a large hot tub (onsen) - a bliss after a lengthy hiking day.

A great local Japanese stay experience”
We were pleased to find the room very clean with very comfortable tatami. Despite having a common bathroom, the ofuro was very comfortable. The location is slightly difficult to find, but gives you the privacy and space you require with a great view. 3 min walking from yamanakako lake and ICHI no HASHI bus station. If you take the highway bus, please stop at yamanakako town hall (Yamanakakomurayakuba mae), and approximately 10 minutes of walking. And if you take a local bus from kawaguchiko or fujisan station, please stop at ICHINOHASHI station, you will see a small road between an onsen place and restaurant, walk to through the road and you will see the guesthouse on your right.

Wish We not stay for just one night.. ”
We arrive the Hotel nearly 6pm, due to the bus driver dropped us one stop after the nearest stop to the hotel, so we have to walk back and look for the hotel in the dark... hahaha... For those who going to stay in this hotel, pls tell the bus driver you need to stop at "Ichinohashi" stop aty Yamanakako lake, just right opposite the souvenir shop, then you will need only 5 minutes to walk to the hotel. Just like the review from everybody else, the owner of the hotel is a super friendly "Obasan" which will try all her way to make your stay like home even she doesn't speak english. The breakfast made by her is superb and you will be wonder how she could manage during the full house situation all by her self. Obasan, O Genki desuka? (If obasan's son see this, pls pass this msg to her ^^ ) Osen in the hotel is also an highlight... when I was there... we have the whole osen by ourself as we are the only guest probably it was a weekday and off peak season. Anyway, we enjoy a very much to stay there. Will definately stay there again if I go back to Mount Fuji.

The Best Place We Stayed At In Japan”
Yamanakako is a bit harder to get to than it's more built up sister lake Kawaguchi but don't let that deter you from staying there. There is a bus that goes to Mt. Fuji station ever 30 mins from about 8am to 7pm as well as another going to Gotemba which is the nearest JR railway. You can catch a 30 min train to Namazu and from there change trains for one stop to Mishimi. From there you can travel by Shinkansen to a lot of the major cities. That route will help you out if you are looking to save some money with your JR pass if not it would be better to catch a highway bus from Shinjuku or Tokyo Station if you are in Tokyo. Our stay at the guesthouse was great! The old lady who runs it only speks a bit of English but she understands quite a bit and is as sweet as can be. She really makes you feel welcome and cooks up a tastey breakfast for only 700 yen (request the night before). To top it off the place has a nice onsen you can relax in after climbing Mt. Fuji or for warming up in the colder seasons. This place is an amazing value if you want a traditional experience for a low cost here you go.

Great hospitality, value and beautiful view of MtF”
Excellent. We came from Tokyo via Keio Highway bus which stopped us at Asahigaoka station. It was snowing (during spring). Nobody in the station knows the inn. We walked a short distance to the 7-11. People were so helpful. They called the inn and they came to fetch us in a car. (Free of charge) The best way to go there is to stop at Itchinohashi station. The rooms were great with enough futon and duvet. Very Comfortable. Only thing is that they do not provide big towel. Only a small face towel. Heater are charged 1000yen extra per room per night. The old lady who is 70 years old - operates this place herself. Sometime with help from another lady if group is too big. She is really nice though she can't speak English.. No private shower place. Breakfast was good. Great bread. This place has a great view of Mt Fuji at the back of the inn. Walking distance to the lake. 20 min walk to other attraction. Good place to relax. The bus station is only less than 5 min walk. Really good value for money. Good place to be is during summer as there seems to have more activities in the lake. Lake Yamanakako is good for relaxation. Not too many tourists like Kawaguchiko.

1 night stay is definitely not enough!!!”
Same as one of the reviewer, me and my wife so sad for planning just a night in here. This guesthouse gave us totally different feel comparing to Shinjuku and Osaka..we feel so relax staying here..before booking I read a lot of reviews giving compliments to the old lady host and we experienced it ourselves..she was superb and nice. She is not well converse in english but we manage to communicate with our body language and command sense..she cleans our luggage roller and prepare us green tea..She arranged us a room directly facing the Mt Fuji..She is reasonable enough by allowing me and my wife to share 1 onsen because there are no other tenants..one last thing is her breakfast..superb!!!

Superb vacation i've ever had”
The place is located near lake yamanakako and a few mins walk from a bus stop. The room is spacious with heater inside as its very cold at night. The owner very friendly and nice. They serve a very good breakfast that can make all of us full. The place was very clean, tidy and quiet so very relaxing and refreshing vacation. I am very delightful staying there and will definitely come back if i got the chance.

Exceptional”
Had a very pleasant 2 night stay. The elderly lady host was very gracious and the place was very clean. She speaks very little English, but we still managed to communicate well. Also lovely view of Mt. Fuji from the back of this place on a clear day. (Lake Yamanakako also happens to be closest to Mt. Fuji.

Relaxing and comfortable stay”
My husband and I stayed after climbing Fuji, and it was a great choice. We relaxed in the hot springs (Onsen) inside of the guesthouse. Our host spoke no English but was incredibly hospitable, it felt like we were being spoiled by a relative while staying at their house. Breakfast was amazing, definitely make sure it's included in your stay. The room was a traditional Japanese tatami room with a great view of the lake/mountains. Definitely coming back if we climb Mt. Fuji again.
