To be completely honest, staying at the Yufuin Forest Terrace Hotel & Spa set the bar so high that it's proving very difficult to plan a trip to northern Japan. For my second trip to Japan, my family and I are going to the Tokyo area and it has been exceedingly difficult to find anything that will give us such a memorable experience as our stay in Yufuin... and I've been searching for several weeks. The private onsen, attentive staff, ease of booking, checking in, leaving, the wonderful room and clean assortment of many different colors and designs of yukata... our stay was simply magical. In fact, I completely forgot to write our review after we stayed and, while planning our second trip to Japan, my stay was so wonderful that here I am, writing a review just because this place deserves it and then some! Excellent service and environment”
The hotel is good for tourists who drive, it is just a few kilometres from the famous Yufuin town. The hotel is very clean and new. The receptionists can speak very fluent and clear English, and are EXTREMELY helpful and nice. The hotel is just within a forest, you can feel the peace surrounding you. The restaurant with nice forest view and the excellent breakfast are all above my expectation given very friendly room rate.

Thanks for my sister choosing this hotel, it is absolutely worth the value! This special hotel has its character, as well as all the friendly staff! We enjoy the service from the picked up at train station Mr Ken San, then the big smiling face Ms Yukiko at front office. also the multifunction Mr Taku, he was the one introduce the hotel, then became our waiter at the evening dinner, then became our driver to drop off us at train station! Other than the excellent service. The best part at this hotel was the private hot spring, & choice of bathrobe for the lady, my sister & I could choose the color that we like! Once again, thanks for The memorable stay! Definitely will suggest this hotel to the one who will go to Yufuin:)

Top notch service and facilities a traveler can dream for!”
Apart from its location which is 10mins car ride from Yufuin town centre, this hotel has every other facilities a couple traveler can dream for - the private onsen, a leisure rest room, a typical English house with Butler service.. moreover, they provide Yukata and Japanese wooden sandals for those who like to have a taste of the local culture.. highly recommended for the great service and hospitality from the staff. (I learnt that they don't accept tips when I tried to offer them for the great hospitality) Best stay of my 1 week vacation in Japan!

Great Place to stay in Yufuin”
The hotel was great value and really enjoyed our stay would recommend families and couples.Excellent service from hotel staff for very attentive friendly helpful efficient and knowledgeable. The hotel was at great location with beautiful mountain view and garden, wonderful meal, outside bathroom, good facilities. This is not Japanese style hotel but you can enjoy everything in Yufuin.

English country style and exquisite Japanese service and scenery ”
This hotel is exceptional. Its style is like an English country idyll and it is cosy and comfortable. The staff are wonderful. The meals are delicious. Add to all this a very nice onsen and a location tucked into the woods in the spectacular Yufuin valley and you have a very special experience. I felt very comfortable here as a solo traveller and it would also be a lovely place for a romantic weekend. It’s a little way out from the main tourist attractions but once you’ve got your bearings it’s not a problem at all.

Delightful hotel in a quiet setting ”
I have only praise for this super tranquil hotel. Although I was only able to stay a day, I was impressed by its facilities, staff and the beauty of its onsens. I would return without hesitation in order to enjoy an escape from the more commercial area of Yufuin.

Western-styled mansion with common/private hot springs. English-speaking kind staffs. Free transport service from/to Yufuin Station. Mostly local visitors than tourists. Quiet but not soundproof. Highly recommend for a solo traveller seeking a quiet place with a hot spring. Not suitable for family with a young child or any big group of friends or family.

Nice private hot spring”
They have three private hot spring bathroom you can reserve. We got it easily. It snows on the day we arrived. We enjoyed the snow falling on our head while in the hot spring. The scenery is great. If you do not speak Japanese, do not arrive at Yufuin after 6 pm. You will have difficulty getting taxi. We were lucky to have a restaurant owner call a taxi for us.

Most spacious and relaxing stay and outstanding meals ”
This is the second time we stayed in the Terrance Spa resort. The staff is lovely, the spa environment is a always treat, the room is spacious and all the amenities are well prepared. Most impressive aspect of this spa resort is the food. The dinner and breakfast were even better than the first time I remembered. My parents loved it and they plan to bring their friends next time.

Lovely western style hotel provides unique eastern feel”
We stayed two nights in this lovely hotel and we were very happy with the good facilities provided. We were well received on arrival and were given an orientation tour of the hotel. The hotel was so customer focused that they even provide a good variety of different patterns yukata for the guests' choice. We were most impressed with the multi-skilled staff of the hotel, in particular Mr Ken Yoshiiwa. He has been most attentive and helpful in all aspects, while he wore different hats as a receptionist, a waiter in the restaurant and a house keeper. He communicates well with all guests in his excellent English and was capable of providing useful information to the hotel guests. Although the hotel situated at a distance from the main street, the hotel provides pick up service to guests without their own car. One minor point to take note is that the food provided can be less salty. We were on the whole, very pleased with our stay here.

Fantastic and sincere service”
We drove a super long way from Miyazaki to the hotel and we couldn't arrive on time (7pm) to have dinner. The owner contacted me through agoda to inform me that dinner cannot be served. However, when we arrived, the first question by the staff was that if we had had dinner. They have actually kept the dinner and reheated for us. While we were waiting for the food, the staff took us to walk around and introduced the facilities in fluent English. We were so embarrassed to be late but we were also touched by their sincere service. The room was very neat and tidy and the hot spring is comfortable too. Residents can make a booking of private onsen rooms (altogether there are 3) but actually the public ones are super comfortable and spacious. There were not many residents as rooms are limited. We had an excellent stay.

Good Place to relax”
if you are not driving, the location may be remote to you and you can just rely on the hotel limo to comute between JR station (where the town situate) and the hotel. The circumstance is quiet and relaxing, furbished in a western style with private hot spring room available. The hotel has a lot of common space with free coffee and tea for customers. Staff are nice and speak good English. However, you have to pre-order your meal well in advance as you cannot just walk-in their only restaurant and order food. If you haven‘t done so, you have to go to the town area , which is about 4KM away, to get food. All in all, I enjoy the relaxing stay and the excellent services there.

Hidden gem in Yufuin”
First, the hotel staff, especially Ken speaks fluent English, he & other male staff welcomed us on arrival & took our bags by walking upstairs to our room on 2/F, and Yumiko briefed us the facilities & how to go in/out from hotel to onsens to us. It was good connection to customers with warm hospitality. The hotel is in a unique private location and in a western ambient environment, and with public onsen and 3 private onsens by first come first served. We had selected Dinner & breakfast. Dinner is French style, the dishes were in nice presentation and the servers briefed us about each dish of the food. It tasted well but no surprise (maybe I learnt French cooking). Would suggest to give us a menu so that we know what to expect; and the food was not hot enough. Breakfast was good. The cleansing kit in the room includes a face mask, what a nice thought! As a whole, we highly recommend this hotel.

I should require for dinner reservation 2 days ago if needed, but I expected that the dinner is included in my agoda package, so others should reserve dinner before booking because there are no many restaurants around the hotel. Nevertheless, the hotel service and facilities are excellent except no dinner included.

It is a really beautiful and warm hotel on the hill. Have great service and kind employee. You will feel like home in this hotel. Here you can have comfortable hot spring service and beautiful yukata for free. And if you want to go to train station.
